Product types

Industrial Utilities & Accessories — categories

These items are often specified late and from drawings, so details such as size, pressure, temperature and material matter. Send us your drawing or specification and we will help identify the right product and prepare a quotation from what we can source. Our team can also review an existing datasheet or nameplate and suggest equivalents, so you do not need a full specification to begin. How it works

Types and how to choose

This family groups products that solve specific mechanical and safety problems. Each works on a different principle, so selection starts with the job.

Air knives shape compressed air or blower air into a thin, high-velocity sheet that dries, cleans or cools products on a conveyor, replacing less efficient open pipes. Gas springs use pressurised gas in a cylinder to provide a controlled force for lifting and holding lids, hoods and doors; the force required depends on the weight and the lever geometry. Shock absorbers dissipate kinetic energy of moving loads by forcing oil through orifices, giving smooth deceleration at end of travel.

Sight glasses let operators see flow, colour or level in a line or vessel, and the glass, frame and pressure rating must suit the fluid. Flame arrestors stop a flame front travelling along a gas line or vent by absorbing heat, and must be matched to the gas group and installation. Puddle flanges are pipe sleeves with a welded collar that seal wall penetrations against water. Boiler equipment covers mountings and accessories for steam and hot-water systems, and toughened glass offers higher strength and safer breakage for sight and inspection use. Browse air knives, gas springs, shock absorbers, flame arrestors and boiler equipment.

Type Best suited for Consider when
Air knife Drying, cleaning and cooling on conveyors Air supply is limited or a contact method is preferred
Gas spring Lifting and holding lids, hoods and doors Position must be locked mechanically
Shock absorber Decelerating moving loads and machine strokes Load is small enough for a simple rubber stop
Sight glass Visual check of flow or level in lines and vessels Remote signal is required
Flame arrestor Protecting gas lines and vents from flashback Gas group or flow conditions are unknown
Puddle flange Waterproof pipe penetrations through walls and slabs Penetration is in a dry location
Toughened glass Sight windows and inspection panels Thermal or chemical conditions need special glass

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions buyers most often ask before requesting a quotation.

What does an air knife do?

An air knife produces a narrow, uniform sheet of high-speed air through a slot. It is used to blow off water, dust or debris, dry products and sometimes cool surfaces on a conveyor. Compared to open pipes it directs air more efficiently, reducing consumption. Sizing depends on width, distance and the air supply.

How do I select a gas spring?

Work out the weight of the lid or door and its centre of gravity, then calculate the force needed at the spring's mounting points. Stroke, end fittings and mounting position follow from the geometry. Because the lever arm changes with position, use a calculation or send us the dimensions. Gas springs also need correct mounting orientation, usually rod down for damping, so share how the lid or door will be fitted.

What is a flame arrestor used for?

A flame arrestor is fitted in gas lines, vents and tank breathers to stop a flame travelling back into the source. It absorbs heat from the flame front through a metal element. It must be matched to the gas group, pressure and installation, so give us the gas or vapour and the line details.

Why use a puddle flange?

A puddle flange is a pipe sleeve with a welded collar that is cast into a wall or slab. The collar provides a barrier to water travelling along the pipe, protecting water tanks and basements. Size and material depend on the pipe and wall thickness. Welded steel versions are common, and larger penetrations may need extra reinforcement or specific drawing details.

Can you supply to a drawing or specification?

Yes, send the drawing or specification and we will review it, indicate what we can source or arrange, and prepare a quotation. For fabricated items, include material grade, dimensions and any inspection requirements. We can also advise on missing details so the quotation covers everything required, such as flange facing, thickness and surface finish.

Need air knives, gas springs or other utility items?

Send your drawing or specification with size, pressure, material and quantity, and we will respond with options and a quotation.
